Swara Sandhya Baithak 2024: Jugalbandhi (A musical conversation between Carnatic & Hindustani)

ICC West Valley is hosting a "Jugalbandhi" event on June 29, 2024, at The Grant Park Community Center in Los Altos, CA, featuring a musical conversation between Carnatic and Hindustani styles. The performance will showcase talented artists including Vikram Bharati (Carnatic vocalist), Sasidhar Madugula (Carnatic violinist), Amit Ranganathan (mridangam artist), Rochan Yakkundi (Hindustani vocalist), Ambhranee Yakkundi (harmonium), and Hari Sivakumar (tabla).

Navratri concert: Dr Anusuya Kulkarni

You will witness a very rare and unique instrumental performance

The instrument is called “Angklung”, an Indonesian Bamboo instrument specially adopted for Indian music by Dr Anusuya Kulkarni, a senior opopular artist from Bangalore, Karnataka

She can play Carnatic and Hindustani music, light songs, bhajans etc. She has been playing this instrument since 1984 on several prestigious platforms, tv channels,music sabhas, international bamboo conferences etc.

She was a popular singer during her younger days. She has many awards to her credit - Ganakala Bhushana, Gana Kalashreee and many awards to her credit.

She got PHD in music from Annamalai University. Her thesiswas “Comparative study of Indian instruments with South East Asian Instruments”.

Born in the family of musicians Dr. Huggannavar got training from his maternal uncle Pt. Lingaraj Bua Yaraguppi, who along with Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur and pt. Basavaraj Rajguru was the desciple of Pt. Nilkanth Bua Mirajkar.

Dr. Huggannavar holds MA in Music with gold medal from Karnataka University , Dharwad. M.Sc in Botany from the same university. Got Phd in the subject - 'Music around Kundagol- from Hampi University.

Dr. Ashok is a B-high grade artist of All India Radio and regular performer of AIR and Television. He has performed across India and abroad.

He started his training at a tender age of seven under Shri Sadananda Gharai who is a disciple of the noted Chandravan of SRA.

Shri Pal got trained for ten years under Shri Sadananda Gharai then he took refuge under the disciple of Joylal Mishra, Lalji Srivastav and Channu Ganguly named Lt. Shri Sudhir Kumar Roy.

Ms Lalita Sharma, is an exponent of the Mewati Gharana of Hindustani classical music, a rare gem who expertly straddles both forms of Indian classical music Carnatic and Hindustani.

She received her advance training in Carnatic vocal from Sri V R Krishnan, Chennai and in Hindustani vocal from Padma Vibhushan Pandit Jasraj.

She was the founder of Pandit Jasraj Schools in Florida, Atlanta and LA ,and founded Swaraangan a School for Hindustani classical music in Chennai.

Swaraangan is a non profit organization aimed at promoting Hindustani music and other art forms in India and abroad.

He received intense training from his Guru Sri Chandrashekhar Swamy under the strict guidance of Pandit Jasrajji as a result of day to day association with the maestro.

Hemang excels in the high watermarks of the ‘Mewati Gharana’ such as ‘meend, layakari, kan-gayaki’ and proper bandish presentation. He has several awards to his credit such as the ‘Surmani’ award.

He has performed widely in India as well as abroad, at prestigious festivals and has received a good press all over.

He holds a degree in commerce, and a Masters degree in Indian music

He is qualified as Lecturer in Indian Music by UGC - University Grants Commission.

He is the founder and principal of a music institution *GAANA SURABHI MUSIC ACADEMY* established in the year 1996 in chennai, and offers coaching for carnatic vocal, diploma and degree exams in indian music.

Navratri concert: Shri Amol Gandharva

He started learning vocal classical music at the age of four. Later, he was under able tutelage of Pandit Gangadharbuva Pimpalkhare who has been instrumental behind his rock-solid foundation. After completing his bachelor’s degree in engineering, he went to Kolkata to learn from Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty and stayed with him for 3 years which enriched his musical abilities.

Amol Nisal is the Recipient of ‘Amol Gandharva’ at the hands of ‘Bhajan Samrat’ Shri Anup Jalota, when he was barely 13. Amol stepped into the music field with confidence and clarity that he adapted at a tender age.

Ever since his stage debut at seven, he has been performing all over India and abroad too, receiving accolades from learned Indian listeners and overseas audiences from countries like Canada, Australia, Singapore, Middle east and even South America.

Navratri Concert: Kum Brinda Radhakrishnan

Brinda has trained in Carnatic music for more than 2 decades by illustrious Gurus Smt A.Champakavalli and A.Srividya at Sri Guruguha Gana Vidyalaya, Kolkata.

Brinda has developed a passion for Art, specifically classical music early on in her life.

Brinda's deep connection with her school, which hails from the direct shishya lineage of Nadajyoti Muthuswami Dikshitar, strengthened further when she started assisting her guru in training young students. in 2017.

She is currently also working as an associate professor at the prestigious Shankar Mahadevan Academy.

Her strong teaching techniques have attracted more than 50 students in a very short span of time.

However, she continued to pursue her thirst for knowledge in music whereby she learnt Abhang & Namasankeerthanam and Hindustani music under the aegis of Vidwan A. Soundarajan and Vidushi Lalita Sharma, respectively.
