Navratri concert: Dr Anusuya Kulkarni

Bio

You will witness a very rare and unique instrumental performance

The instrument is called “Angklung”, an Indonesian Bamboo instrument specially adopted for Indian music by Dr Anusuya Kulkarni, a senior opopular artist from Bangalore, Karnataka

She was fascinated by Angklung during her stay in Indonesia with her husband Sri Narayana Kulkarni, a senior officer with UNDP.

 She can play Carnatic and Hindustani music, light songs, bhajans etc. She has been playing this instrument since 1984 on several prestigious platforms, tv channels,music sabhas, international bamboo conferences etc. 

She was a popular singer during her younger days. She has many awards to her credit - Ganakala Bhushana, Gana Kalashreee and many awards to her credit. 

She got PHD in music from Annamalai University. Her thesiswas “Comparative study of Indian instruments with South East Asian Instruments”.

During her stay in over 11 countries she collected various musical instruments over 300 in number, and has created a musical instrument museum at her residence which is visited by many senior musicians, research scholars, music students and school children. In addition, she has trained many students. 

She will be accompanied on Angklung by her students Thapasya Singh and Jhanavi Singh

On violin by Vidushi Jyotsana Manjunath, on Mridangam by  Vidwan B. N. Ramesh , brother of late B.N. Suresh, popular flute prodigy, whose concert many of you may have listened,
