On the auspicious occasion of Dhantrayodashi (dhanteras) we present a live performance by Smt Lalita Sharmaji, accompanied by Souvik Ghosh.
Smt Lalita Sharma is a well-known exponent of the Mewati Gharana of Hindustani music. She initially trained in Carnatic music in Kolkata, where she was born and raised. She continued training under Sri V R Krishnan of Chennai. Her introduction and training in the nuances of Hindustani classical music came from the inimitable Padma Vibhushan late Pandit Jasraj. She has founded the Pandit Jasraj Schools in Florida, Atlanta and Los Angeles. She has several performances, recordings and compositions to her credit. And, Souvik Ghosh on Tabla. He comes from a music-loving family, where his interest in music first arose after his sister started learning hindustani vocal music. Souvik started learning tabla at the age of 10 under Sri Muralidhar Pai. Since then, he has received training from Sri Debu Nayak, Ustad Hamid Hossain, and Enayet Hossain. He's currently a disciple of Pt Abhijit Banerjee at the Dhwani academy of percussion. Souvik is originally from Maryland, where he attended the University of Maryland and now works as a software developer at Google.
